FAQ

Questions worth asking.

Here's everything people usually want to know before their first walk — how it works, what it costs, and what makes it different.

Q1What is Explorio?

Explorio is a walking tour guide app that's like a good friend who lives where you're visiting and is excited to show you around. Explorio's narrator tells you the most amazing, true stories about the place — and if you get curious about something, you can ask your own questions and get answers in real time.

Q2How long is a walk?

Usually between five and ten stops and 20–45 minutes of listening (most land around six to eight stops and 25–35 minutes of audio). You'll be on the ground longer than that, often a couple of hours, because you're actually walking.

Q3Can two people take the same tour together?

Yes. Couples and friends can experience tours together by connecting two sets of headphones to one mobile phone. It's very easy to do — first, make sure both sets of headphones are already paired.

iPhone: This works if you have Apple AirPods or Beats-branded headphones. Tap the AirPods icon on the Now Playing screen, the Lock Screen, or in Control Center. Select Share Audio on your device, then follow the onscreen instructions to pair the second pair of headphones. Watch this video if you want more instruction.

Android: Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the Quick panel, then tap on Media output. Select both sets of headphones to enable simultaneous streaming. Watch this video if you want more instruction.

We're also working hard to deliver a new feature that will let you share the tour directly with a companion on their own phone. That will be ready soon.

Q4How much does it cost?

You can try the first stop free. After that you unlock a walk to hear the rest of the tour (you will definitely want to!). The exact price shows in the app when you unlock. You will never have a subscription you have to cancel.

If you don't want the narrator with you for the rest of your tour, you still have access to the map and the tour stops with descriptions so you can continue to explore on your own — our gift to you for trying Explorio.

Q5What if I have questions about what I'm seeing while I walk?

Just ask your question to the narrator. That's one of Explorio's most fun features. The narrator answers your questions conversationally. We also have some other, really creative interactivity features in the pipeline aleady, so stay tuned!

Q6Which cities does it work in?

Anywhere. You can generate a curated walk wherever you are, as long as information about your area exists. Your narrator studies everything about the area — its history, art, architecture, social relevance, everything — and pulls your location's amazing, true stories together for you.

Q7How is this different from VoiceMap?

VoiceMap is a catalog of human-narrated tours you can pick from. They're excellent, but you're limited to the locations and themes that have been pre-recorded.

Explorio can build a themed walk in real time, based on your interests and wherever you are.

Q8Is Explorio on iPhone and Android?

Android first (closed testing, then public). iPhone follows. Join the waitlist at explorio.io and we'll tell you when your store is open.
